If You Could Stop Just One Employee from Leaving...

Sept. 29, 25

Happy Monday!  Let’s say we’re sitting down over coffee and talking about your team. You mention that turnover’s been high lately, or that morale feels off. Maybe someone really good just left and it stung more than you expected.

I’d probably say something like this: “If you could stop even one person from walking out that door, would it be worth investing in something that helps?”

(Not probably.  I would say that.  Because I have.  I do a lot of coffee meetings. Often virtual ones. You don’t get the coffee aroma but still valuable one to one conversation).

When someone leaves, it’s not just the loss of a warm body. It’s their knowledge, their relationships, their momentum. It’s time and money spent finding, hiring, and onboarding someone new. And you already know that replacing an employee can cost anywhere from half to two times their salary, depending on the role.

That’s where my programs come in. Whether it’s with the company culture board game, Company Culture – A Game of Workplace Traction Not Transaction® or a tailored training session, what I offer is more than just a feel-good afternoon. You can read descriptions of all my programs on my website. It’s a real chance to open conversations, surface issues, and shift culture in a way that keeps people engaged—and staying.

You don’t need to justify it with endless reports. I mean, I’ve got the stats if you want them. They’re strong. But sometimes the decision just comes down to this: if the investment kept just one great person on your team, would it be worth it?

I’ve worked with companies of all sizes. The ones that get the best results are the ones willing to try something a little different to get somewhere better. You don’t need a giant budget or a massive initiative. You just need to care enough to do something.

And if you’re not the final decision maker? Show this to your CEO, your CFO – whoever you answer to. You’re not asking for a splurge. You’re ‘slaying the villain of culture stagnation™’ by asking for something that pays for itself, sometimes several times over.

So yes, this is just coffee talk. But maybe it’s the most valuable conversation you’ll have this week.
