I just had an incredible experience creating a ๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐จ๐ฆ๐ข๐ณ๐๐ ๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง of the ๐ถ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฆ ๐ถ๐ข๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ ๐ต๐๐๐๐ ๐บ๐๐๐ยฎ for a Labor Union.ย Because they are not a typical workplace or corporate setting, I changed nomenclature to match their needs.
In the original version, all the cards (120 of them) say Hourly or Salaried on the back. The face the card says, โIn this Companyโ or โPeople in this Companyโ, I changed the backs of the cards to Leaders and Members. On the face of the card, I changed from Company or Workplace to Union. If there was a reference to the job title I had to change those to language that fit their nomenclature too.
So right from the beginning I asked them to send me their logo in either .svg or .ai formats.
We had a deadline of July 31 for the games to be finished and ready for production because they have an All-Hands training in mid-September. ย The production company has a four to six week lead time.
Weeks went by…I still didn’t get the logos. I emailed them again. Two weeks later I still hadnโt received them. ย I emailed again.
I had also asked for us to Zoom during the week of July 20th immediately after I was back from six weeks in Germany. (I was also working on the game while I was there).ย I wanted the Zoom so that we could review all of the cards online and take a final look at everything together.
But the Zoom didn’t get scheduled, nor did the logos arrive. I waited.
I emailed them that week, and again a week later. On July 31st, I sent an e-mail telling them that the deadline for me to finish the game had been missed. ย I was still waiting for things on their end. Suddenly, there was a flurry of activity. From two of the Unionโs people. I received the logos, but in .png.
I knew I was going to have to work with them as-is. ย I’m not feeling as if the quality of the custom branding was quite what I would have liked for the front of the box. I had also scheduled a graphic designer to do that part of it, and only that part of it. But she never responded to multiple messages. Her loss.
It added extra work on my end.
On Monday one of the representatives Zoomed with me. As a result of last-minute changes and requests I spent another several hours completing final game edits and card changes late into the evening Monday.
I sent them in for review.
Tuesday the game order went in. The client was not only willing to pay for expedited production, but they ordered more games than the original agreement!
